After working with a couple of tuners and then on my own for a while with the HP Tuners software I discuss and illustrate how the shift point selection affects the operation of the car.
The next chart shows a tune with a high engine speed upshift:
The next chart also shows a 2 to 3 upshift, but this tune upshifts at a lower engine speed with a lower pedal position. This can produce the “racing to a higher gear” effect.
At greater pedal input this tune upshifts similar to the tune shown above :
