Background:
ARM Motorsports sells an open intake for the Mk7. The company provided a sample product to perform a flow bench test with.
Test Process:
The ARM intake will be tested using a flow bench to measure the airflow through the intake at a test depression of 28″ of H2O.
The intake tube is attached to a generic aftermarket turbo inlet elbow that is joined with a flow bench adapter that simulates the compressor cover of the IS20/IS38 turbocharger.
A second test is performed using a 034 Motorsport turbo inlet elbow.
Test Results:
The ARM intake with generic aftermarket turbo inlet elbow flows 390 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.
The ARM intake with 034 Motorsport turbo inlet elbow flows 402 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.
This result is shown compared with other intakes that have been tested using the flow bench:
Conclusion:
ARM Motorsports open-intake for the Mk7 GTI was flow tested using a flow bench and produced an airflow measurement of 402 CFM @ 28″ of H2O when combined with the 034 Motorsport turbo inlet elbow
This airflow places the ARM intake among the top three intakes that have been tested as described in this post.
Would this intake have a negative effect on a GTI with a stock turbo?
With respect to the amount of airflow it supports, no, it won’t have any negative effect on the turbocharger.
