DBV2 Intake Flow Test

Background:

This post continues an ongoing series of tests of aftermarket intakes for the Mk7 GTI where the airflow rate through the intakes is measured using a PTS flowbench.

For this test the DBV2 intake for the Mk7 is tested for airflow rate using a stock-size turbo adapter and a hybrid turbo-size adapter.

Test Procedure:

The intake parts will be attached to the flow bench using two sizes of adapters. A stock-size adapter simulates the compressor cover of the IS20 and IS38 turbochargers which have a 49 mm ID inlet. A hybrid-adapter has a 56 mm ID inlet.

When testing flow rate with the stock adapter (49mm ID) an MST v1 inlet elbow (48.1mm ID) is used. Testing using the hybrd-adapter will be made with the intake attached to the DBV2 turbo inlet elbow (55.3mm ID).

The flow bench is first checked with a calibration plate to verify the accuracy of the measured airflow. All tests are performed at a test depression of 28″ of H2O.

DBV2 Intake Test Results:

The DBV2 intake joined to the stock adapter with the MST V1 TIP flowed 403 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.

This result is shown on the following chart along with other intakes that have been tested with a stock turbo adapter.

DBV2 Flow Test Result – Stock Adapter

The DBV2 Intake and TIP attached to the flow bench using a hybrid-size adapter flowed 514 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.

This result is shown in the chart along with other intakes that have been tested using the hybrid-size adapter.

Finally, the Vibrant air filter was removed from the intake to see if any gains would be measured with only a bellmouth entry to the intake using the stock-size adapter.

The airflow rate increased by 7 CFM, a 1.75% increase.

Conclusions:

The DBV2 intake for the Mk7 was flow tested to determine airflow rates at 28″ of H2O. The DBV2 intake flowed 403 CFM @ 28″ of H2O when attached to a stock turbo adapter using an MST V1 turbo inlet elbow. This flow rate is within the measurement margin of error (+/- 2 CFM) of the highest flowing intake that has been tested to date.

When attached to the flow bench using the DBV2 TIP and a hybrid-size adapter the DBV2 flowed 514 CFM @ 28″ of H2O. This is the second highest flowing intake that has been tested using the hybrid-size adapter.
