Background:
After several years of use with the Racingline R600 intake, which I had purchased used, the screws were wearing down the plastic where they attached to the airbox. This has led to some of the screws not securing the lid very well.

A shop that was working on my car suggested a fix using expanding inserts. I liked the idea and set out to measure the dimensions of the screws and find replacement parts.
Parts:
I found the parts I would need at McMaster-Carr. In total, I would need nine (9) inserts and bolts, but a pack of 25 was the lowest cost option.

Conversion:
Converting to the inserts was straightforward. Set them in place…

Then squeeze them until they are seated completely.

They have a clean look, and although there is a small flange at the top of the insert, it isn’t thick enough to affect the lid closure.

The bolts replace the screws.

Making a secure connection of the lid to the airbox bottom.

These will take slightly longer to remove because the bolts’ thread pitch requires more rotations to remove each one than the screws do.
Long-term review:
At the time this post was made, I had just converted to the bolts and inserts. Long-term thoughts on the conversion will be added later.
