Background:
The CC Design 3.5″ exhaust for my Mk7 GTI was a bit louder than I cared for with just the dual mufflers prior to the exhaust tip.
Discussing options to quiet the exhaust further led to a decision for CC Design to fabricate a muffler that would maintain the 3.5″ piping in a straight-through design, located in the same position as my current Magnaflow muffler.
I’ve now received the completed muffler and will move on with installing it and evaluating the sound level.
Sound Comparison:
Part of the exhaust comparison will be to analyze sound levels and frequencies to identify potential differences. To that end, I ran a test to confirm that I could log all the information I am interested in concurrently, which I could not do the first time out.
Having the information for my current AWE/Magnaflow setup allowed me to compare the results with the previously recorded CC Design exhaust, which does not have the new muffler section.
The loudness from the CC Design exhaust in the low-frequency range (~125 Hz) is clearly shown on the spectrogram.
