Shuenk IS38 Turbo First Drive

After a drive around the block to be sure that the installation of the Shuenk IS38 turbocharger had been done properly a second drive was made to record boost onset.

Ambient temperature during the drive was 84F which combined with the slow speed, approximately 30 mph at the point of WOT, led to intake air temperatures starting over 100F.  Not ideal for showcasing turbocharger responsiveness, but that’s what data logging in mid-July produces.

Boost onset for various starting engine speeds, all in third gear, are shown on the chart below.

Also logged was the compressor outlet temperature which is shown on the chart below with readings made of a stock IHI IS38 under similar boost onset measurement taking.

  1. Any new dyno pulls or 1/4 mile passes? I’m thinking about this turbo but no one has any numbers from it.

    1. The only dyno I have seen so far is with a 1.8 engine. I’m still in the tuning process.
