Background:
034Motorsport supplies several intake options for the Mk7 GTI. In this post, a flow test of the open S34 intake is reviewed.
Product under test:
The 034Motorsport S34 intake is an open intake that uses a conventional conical air filter separated from the engine compartment using a carbon fiber heat shield. Air passes from the air filter through a silicone inlet hose to the turbocharger inlet elbow.
The outlet of the silicone hose is sized to fit a stock inlet elbow, or an aftermarket elbow that has a stock inlet diameter.
Test Procedure:
The intake is assembled and attached to the turbo inlet elbow which is then connected to the flow bench using an adapter that simulates the inlet of a stock IHI IS20/IS38 turbocharger.
A second test is performed by replacing the stock-size turbo inlet elbow with one that uses a 54 mm ID outlet, better suited to a larger hybrid turbocharger. For this test, a slightly larger adapter is used which has an inside diameter of 56 mm.
Both configurations are measured using a test pressure of 28″ of H2O.
034 S34 Intake Flow Test Results:
The S34 intake flows 402 CFM @ 28″ of H2O using a stock turbo adapter.
This result is shown along with other intakes that have been tested in this manner in the following chart:
The S34 intake is connected to a Shuenk TIP (54 mm outlet) and hybrid turbo adapter resulting in a flow rate of 507 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.

Conclusions:
The 034Motorsport S34 intake was subject to flow testing using a stock turbo adapter and a hybrid turbo adapter.
At 28″ of H2O the S34 intake flows 402 CFM through the stock adapter and 507 CFM through the hybrid adapter.
Both flow rates are in the upper ranges of the intakes that have been flow tested.
