IE V2 Intake Flow Test

Background:

Previously the Integrated Engineering v1 intake for the Mk7 was flow tested. The IE V2 intake is being flow tested to compare with the results from the v1 intake and other aftermarket intakes for the Mk7 GTI.

The IE V2 intake includes two silicone inlet hoses, one has an outlet that is the size of the stock turbo inlet elbow, and the other has a 3″ outlet that fits with the IE turbo inlet elbow, and the other inlet elbows that are 3″ diameter at the entrance.

For these tests, the MST v1 (stock size outlet) and DBV2 (hybrid size outlet) will be fit to the IE intake using the respective turbo inlet hoses.

Test Procedure:

The IE V2 intake is assembled. After checking the calibration of the flow bench the intake is attached using an adapter that simulates the entry to the stock IHI IS20 and IS38 turbochargers. The MST v1 TIP is used with the stock turbo adapter and the parts are measured at a test pressure of 28″ of H2O.

Next, the adapter is changed to one that simulates a larger hybrid turbocharger and the DBV2 TIP is swapped in for the MST V1 TIP. The test is repeated at 28″ of H2O.

In the final configuration, the intake is attached directly to the bench using the stock inlet hose and 3″ inlet hose. This test is performed at 10″ of H2O.

IE V2 Test Results:

Using the IHI adapter the IE V2 intake flows 393 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.

Using a hybrid turbo adapter the IE V2 flows 494 CFM @ 28″ of H2O.

Testing directly to the flow bench without an inlet elbow the IE V2 flows 433 CFM with the 3″ inlet hose and 363 CFM with the stock inlet hose. Both measures were made at a test pressure of 10″ of H2O:

Conclusions:

The IE V2 intake was flow-tested using several different configurations. Measures are summarized in the following list:

  • Stock turbo adapter | MST V1 TIP – 393 CFM @ 28″ of H2O
  • Hybrid turbo adapter | DBV2 TIP – 494 CFM @ 28″ of H2O
  • Direct | Stock inlet hose – 362 CFM @ 10″ of H2O
  • Direct | 3″ inlet hose – 433 CFM @ 10″ of H2O
