MGM7 Intake – Attachment Updates

Background:

The last update to the MGM7 intake was to make the part a single piece instead of components.

A couple of bits that still needed work were the transition to the turbo inlet elbow, the bend to the elbow, and a more useful inlet for attaching the Vibrant air filter.

Updates:

Elbow connection:

The last version had a short transition from the intake to the elbow inlet, but for this revision, I’ve gone back to using a transition I had made previously, which is meant to use a Mishimoto silicone coupler.

I found that increasing airflow was possible by making a sleeve fit inside the coupler, which made the transition from 3.5” to 3” more gradual. This smoother transition has been applied to this update to the intake.

This means that this intake version is made to work with a turbo inlet elbow with a 3” inlet diameter.

Inside bend:

The next update concerns the bend leading into the elbow. A curvature analysis showed that the inside radius of the bend into the elbow is the tightest bend along the intake (Yellow Arrow). Therefore, I worked on investigating possible improvements to this area.

The final bend is now slightly more gradual, although there is no getting around this intake segment having the smallest radius of curvature.

Filter connection:

The connection for the air filter was also revised to better join with the Vibrant air filter.  The flange depth of the filter was measured, and a mounting ring of similar depth was added.

This ring also has a raised stop bar at the trailing edge to help place the air filter at a depth that will position the filter element relative to the intake edge so that air smoothly flows into the intake inlet end.

Next Step:

My next priorities for the intake are printing this version for a test fitting and a flow test.
